CONTEMPORARY NATURAL DYE ARTIST
Grace Frogley is a London and Kent-based artist whose practice explores the transformative potential of natural colour.
Working with dyes derived from flowers, plants, seeds, and bark, Grace creates work that sits at the intersection of craft, ecology, and contemporary material culture.
Alongside her artistic practice and exhibitions, Grace develops immersive experiences and creative collaborations that bring audiences into direct contact with natural dye processes.

The Botanical Dye Club experience is a guided, hands-on introduction to the art of botanical colour. Guests are invited to work with natural dyes derived from plants, roots and flowers, learning how colour is extracted, transformed and applied to fabrics.
Guests leave with their own wearable art: a personally dyed silk scarf carrying a direct trace of the materials, process and moment in which it was made.
Where possible, I source deadstock silk, surplus fabric from design houses, and collect and repurpose the botanicals used, giving materials a second life and supporting a more circular economy approach.

What is a bespoke botanical dye piece?
A bespoke piece is a hand-dyed textile created using natural plant-based dyes and bundle steaming techniques. Each work is individually composed, resulting in layered, organic colour that is formed through direct interaction between fabric, botanicals and steam.
Can I choose the colours and design?
You can guide the overall palette and mood, but the final result is shaped by the natural dye process itself. This balance between intention and unpredictability is what gives each piece its depth, variation and individuality.
Are all pieces the same?
No. Every piece is entirely unique. Even within a shared brief or colour direction, natural dye processes produce subtle variations in tone, texture and pattern.
How are the pieces made?
Each textile is prepared with selected botanicals and natural pigments, then wrapped and steamed using a bundle dyeing technique. As the fabric steams, the colours are released and fixed organically, creating layered, unpredictable compositions.
What materials do you work with?
Pieces are typically created using natural fibres such as silk, cotton and linen, chosen for their ability to absorb and hold botanical colour.
